Doctor's visit, Trip, etc.

Luc had his 2 month checkup this past Monday.

Here were his stats:
Head circumference: 40.5 cm - 60th Percentile
Length: 23.5 inches,  (60 cm) - 75th Percentile
Weight: 10 pounds, 13.5 ounces (4.9 kg) - 50th Percentile
Otherwise, she checked everything and everything was good :)
It was his first vaccines, so the first time he's been poked with a needle since he was 3 days old (we got bloodwork for jaundice, but that was a poke on his heel). The two nurses got on either side of him to administer 2 vaccines each in the thighs.  Nicolas held Luc's arms and I stood and watched. Oh man, I was stunned when it happened. In went the needles. Luc started crying. I was rooted to the spot and my eyes  teared up as I watched them stab his little thighs with the needles!   Well, it shocked me a little. I wasn't prepared for it really. Of course the nurses finished up and put bandaids on him and Nico picked him up and he stopped crying....  I still stood there motionless, speechless. Then I recovered....  It's like he is an extension of me and his pain shocked me. I mean, it was only moments but it certainly formed a memory.

So, maybe this is crazy, but we had to start it sometime, right?  Monday night, Luc spent his first night in his room!  He had a small fever from his vaccines so I was worried but we did it anyway. We set up the monitors so we don't hear his every single sigh, grunt and movement. We could only hear him when he was really awake and making noises meaning he's waking/hungry. He woke me at 3 and I fed him but then I was back and forth until 4:30 worried about his fever. He slept through me coming in and out of his room and taking his temp (under the arm) which I never could get a good reading on and figuring out the tylenol dosage which I never gave to him. And then I finally decided he was sleeping, he was fine, the fever is normal and I went to sleep. He woke again at 6.  so really he just had the extra wakeup at 3 and that was probably cause of the fever and he was extra thirsty or something.  The next night was fine and we'll see how tonight is :)    He sleeps from 10 or 11 till 6:30 or 7 most nights.

Florida:
We went to my cousin's wedding in Jacksonville, Fl. and then we stayed for the week. Nicolas went into the office there for work everyday.  It was definitely interesting travelling with a baby. The first thing we realized was, um, we want a bigger car!  It was packed and we managed fine, but the backseat was full of stuff too and I wasn't a big fan of that. It was great seeing our family (and showing off Luc :) )
On the way down we split the trip and stopped in Savannah for a night so the next day we had lunch on the waterfront and took a nice stroll :)

Changes in Luc:
Luc is holding his head more when we hold him upright. He is realizing that his hands can be controlled and seems more intentional  about where he puts them sometimes. I was sitting next to him and my hair was hanging near his hands. He was looking at my hair and then he moved his hand into it to check it out. Then he closed his fist but he didn't get much. He did that a couple times :) It's fun to watch him become more aware.
Luc is smiling more and more. He is looking at us and more aware. He has more expressions.  He has a really cute goofy grin. I talk to him and he talks back, we laugh together. It's pretty fun :)

Breastfeeding update:
It's going ok. It's weird trying to figure out how to feed him and where when you are out and about but mostly it was ok. It's sometimes hard in public because he's at a different angle and is not latched on as well. You know, I don't have all my pillows and stuff that I have at home. And he wants to move his legs and he jerks about trying to get gas out while he's eating. Gross, I know but that's what he does. I didn't realize he was moving so much until I was trying to nurse in public.  I pumped yesterday for the first time in a long time. It wasn't as easy as before (took a long time for the milk to finally flow). It makes my nipples sore (i know, too much information). It's so much easier to just feed him and I'm now making just the right amount of milk for him for a day, so pumping extra is not necessary unless I want to increase my supply. It was nice to go out and not have to worry about getting home to feed him though, as there was the milk that I pumped before hand and some milk in the freezer in case he was super hungry.  I went out and left the guys at home :)

Our first hotel on our trip, I forgot to take a pic of the place we stayed for a week, but it was really nice too. It had a separate room for the bedroom and a little kitchen.  This place we got upgraded to this room (probably cause we all trooped in like pack mules and the lady at check-in took pity on us)

Lovely place to have a wedding. And fortunately, it wasn't super hot that day. Incidentally, this was also Mother's Day. I had my first Mother's Day!  It was nice, but also strange. Congrats to me though, I'm happy  to participate in Mother's Day as a mom in addition to as a daughter.

My honey.  That's Brian's coca-cola if anyone is wondering....

Hello! :)

Hmmm, did I just eat or is it hot and bright out here?

Hehe :) was that me?  poot poot...

And this is tonight, I was happy to take this picture but these two guys were not as enthused.

  1. Did you really just post that the herky jerky while nursing makes your nidges sore? Yes, you did!
